October News

October has been full of Autumn learning.  Here is a brief overview of how we have enhanced our broad and balanced curriculum at The Rissington School.

Each class have nominated their Outdoor Champions.  Their first job was to harvest all the vegetables from our allotments.  Throughout the year they will be working with Miss Green to plan and record all of our outdoor learning.  This term Lancaster Class and Phantom class were our Outdoor Learning Champions.

Our extra-curricular clubs started this month and lots of children have enjoyed particupating in learning languages with LingoTots;  rugby, gymnastics, homework; multiskills, crafts; and nature.  Please do let us know if there is a club that you would like us to run.

We celebrated National Poetry day listening to the prosody of poetry and then writing some poems of our own.

In October we have supported the charity Young Minds, wearing Yellow for world mental health day - Hello Yellow.

Harvest Festival:  we welcomed parents back into the church at Great Rissington and into school at the Upper site and had a fabulous turnout at both.  Thank you to everyone who brought products we gave a total of 199.62kg of food products to the food bank.

It was fantastic to return to the Cheltenham Literature festival.  Mrs Loxton took a small group of children to an author event with Frank Cottrell Boyce.  He was fabulously funny, the children learnt all about how he was inspired to write is new novel Noah's Gold during lockdown and we even managed to get our collection of his books, signed by him.

We love maths at the Rissington School and this month we entered four of our Year 6 children into the Maths Challenge at St Edwards School in Cheltenham.

Because we love reading, we had the Book Fair visit the school, selling an incredible amount of books worth £550.

We have enhanced our PE curriculum this term, with our external specialist Sam, and we loved learning new skills in hockey something we have been unable to do during lockdown.

Cinema Club - we love raising money to improve our school and enjoyed an evening watching movies and eating popcorn.  The Friends of the Rissington School raised over £500 at this event.

Parent Consultations:  we love welcoming parents into school and this term it was fantastic to have face to face, interim learning reviews at our Parent's Evenings.

Our Early Years have loved learning about the adventures of SuperTato and Evil Pea.  To celebrate all their learning, they had a great day dressed as their own Superhero!  They even had a visit from SuperTato who saved Miss Hawtrey and Miss Saunston from Evil Pea - who was quickly despatched to Mrs Dawe's office!

Class Assemblies:  We love sharing our learning and were able to invite our parents back in to see live performances of our class assemblies.  Lancaster Class and Phantom Class showcased their learning all about the stone-age.

Phew!  What an amazing month at The Rissington School.  Look out for our November enrichment activities.
