Our School

The Rissington School is a friendly and vibrant school set between two sites: the Victorian site at Great Rissington and the newer (2015) site at Upper Rissington.  Children from the Rissingtons and neighbouring villages attend our school from the ages of 3 to 11.  Although between two sites, our school is very much one; staff and children are together at every opportunity, be it through our Rissy Wraparound Childcare Club, extra-curricular clubs, trips and residentials, curriculum activities and enrichment opportunities.

Children learn in “Chipmunks”, a provision for pre-school children based at the Upper Rissington site, which welcomes children from the term after their third birthday.  From here, or elsewhere, children join our Reception year based at Upper Rissington.  We currently offer 30 places in our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes and 45 places for children joining in Years 3 to 6.

In Early Years and Key Stage 1, children learn in one-year-group classes (Reception in Hawk, Year 1 in Spitfire and Year 2 in Vulcan).  From Year 3 upwards, children currently learn in mixed-aged classes: Year 3 & 4 in Lancaster, Hercules and Phantom, Year 5 and 6 in Tornado, Typhoon and Nimrod.

Going forwards, each cohort will have a maximum number of 30 places for pupils.

OUR VISION

To provide wide and varied learning experiences for our children, instilling respect, equality and a sense of wonder at the world we live in.  By enabling them to know more, remember more and do more,  children will live happy and rewarding lives.

The Rissington School prides itself on being a fully inclusive and inspirational learning environment, where all pupils feel welcomed, confident to challenge themselves, and are supported to reach their potential.

The school has grown rapidly in recent years, trebling in size.  This has created an atmosphere where new pupils feel welcomed, and quickly feel at home as a member of our school community.  The open and welcoming feel of the school is often commented on pupils, parents and visitors alike.

We value and celebrate our school's history and that of the surrounding areas.  Our classes, for example, are named after RAF planes, and we work with community members and groups at every opportunity.

In 2019 we asked our pupils and parents to share the words they would use to describe The Rissington School, and these were used to create the wordle below (where the size of the words reflect the frequency they were used).
