Total Communication

‘Total communication is about finding and using the right combination of communication skills for each individual child’s needs.’ 

Through teaching Total Communication at our school, we are allowing all children the opportunity to communicate, not only with each other but with people in the wider community. Our intention is to give all children the knowledge and skills to use signs alongside speech to enhance their learning whilst at The Rissington School. The children will learn skills that will stay with them throughout their time in school an into later life. 

Children learn signs in school through weekly assemblies as well as implementing them in our day to day school life. Signs that we learn in school can be found on our ‘Total Communication’ page on DB Primary.
